Census Reveals New Jersey’s Hispanic Population is on the Rise

New data from the United States census shows a tremendous surge in New Jersey’s Hispanic population in every single county. New population estimates showed that from 2010 to 2014, the Hispanic population has grown in the Garden State from 1.6 million to 1.7 million compared to the rest of the state’s population which has remained steady at 7.2 million. Although every county in the state has seen a growth in their Hispanic population, the counties which have seen the most growth are Bergen, Hudson and Union. This increase in the Hispanic population helped the total population in New Jersey go from 8.8 million to 8.9 million in the last four years.

New Jersey is now one of the few states that whose millennial population is now comprised mostly of minorities, signifying a dramatic shift in demographics. Despite an ever-increasing presence in the state, New Jersey’s immigrant population still remains under-represented and all-too-often exploited. As an immigrant living in New Jersey, it’s important to realize that, perhaps now more than ever, you have a voice and should not have to put up with persecution or mistreatment in your pursuit of a better life.
