Monroe Criminal Lawyer

Crimes arising out of Monroe Township are handled in either Monroe Municipal Court or Middlesex County Superior Court. Monroe Municipal Court is located 1630 Perrineville Road. The Honorable George Boyd presides over the court. Monroe Municipal Court has jurisdiction over non-indictable offenses. These offenses are generally less serious than offenses handled in New Jersey Superior Court. Some common non-indictable offenses include disorderly conduct or criminal mischief.

Monroe Disorderly conduct

In New Jersey, a person is guilty of a petty disorderly persons offense, if he causes public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, or recklessly creates a risk by: (1) Engaging in fighting or threatening; or, (2) Creating a hazardous or physically dangerous condition. The penalty for a petty disorderly persons offense includes up to 30 days imprisonment and a maximum fine of $500.

Monroe Criminal Mischief

Under New Jersey law, a person is guilty of criminal mischief if he: (1) purposely or knowingly damages tangible property of another or damages tangible property of another recklessly or negligently in the employment of fire, explosives...; or, (2) purposely, knowingly or recklessly tampers with tangible property of another so as to endanger person or property.

Monroe Underage Drinking

It is unlawful for anyone under the age of 21 to consume alcohol in New Jersey. If convicted, a defendant can expect a fine of $500 or more, driver's license suspension or postponement, and mandatory enrollment into an alcohol education program.
